That's No Bull; A Look at the Future?

Yes, while many are getting excited about this week of Derby Preps, I prefer to look forward to when we get to see the Cow Chip Derby.  You see, a girl in Germany asked for a horse but her parents said no.  Undeterred, the girl trained her cow Luna to go on long rides and to also jump over the hurdles.  The story indicates while 15 year old Regina Mayer's friends have taken a liking to Luna, the other cows have given Luna the cold shoulder. Click here for more of the story and pictures.  Unfortunately, the story doesn't go into details as to what will happen with Luna when Regina goes offf to school for nursing.  Hopefully, her parents will keep Luna around; who knows a new form of parimutuel wagering may have been discovered.

Now if Regina can teach Luna to race on the trot, that wold be something.  Someone would have to call John Manzi up; he may have a new promotion.

Next time you get a big hit at the track and it seems the track is on shaky grounds, make sure you get paid in cash.  A bettor at the bankrupt Hindsdale Greyhound Track got paid by check for hits made on wagers at Belmont Park.  Since he got paid by check within 90 days of the bankruptcy filing, he became an unsecured creditor and the track wants the money back.  The moral of the story is cash is king.

Meanwhile, no further news regarding the Meadowlands as Jeff Gural has another week to come to terms not only with the unions,  but the Governor's office.  If no agreement with the union is reached by this weekend, a lot of people are going to be starting to sweat bullets.  To give you an idea of what New Jersey racing will consist of if the Meadowlands, fails to be saved; I'm providing selections for Freehold, this Saturday.  When you look at the race conditions, remember this is a Saturday card; a day where they used to have a $19,000 Pref-Inv Handicap.  This would probably be as good as it gets; it likey would be worse.

Get Well Soon Wishes go out to Freehold Announcer Larry Lederman who had a seizure earlier this week.  Tests show that a brain tumor is responsible for the seizure.  I wish the original funny man of track announceers all the best for a speedy recovery.
