Casie Colemen Gets Nailed by ORC

The ORC held their hearing yesterday with regards to the three Class IV positives which Coleman's horses had a Woodbine.  As a result of this hearing, the judges handed down a decision in the recent positives for trainer Casie Coleman

  •  $10,000 fine and 2 year extension of probation.  Probation now ends May 4, 2016
  •  For positive on Hilarious Halo - $2,000 fine plus full suspension running from April 4 thru April 18
  •  For positive on Run On Luck - $2,000 fine plus full suspension running from April 19 thru May 3
  •  For positive on MC Dynamite - $2,000 fine plus full suspension running form March 5 thru April 3 (credit for seven days served)

At this point, there is no news whether Coleman will be appealing her suspension which will cost her a total of $16,000 and a two months.

What do you think?  Was the penalty too light, too hard, or just right?

The better question would be "does it even matter"? The stable will continue to race without missing a beat, and continue to produce the same results.

what exactly is probation and how does it affect her stable?

Probation can mean many things. It depends on the cause of the original ruling. Depending on the violation, it can mean a more severe penalty when an infraction takes place or it could mean license revocation. Again, it depends on what caused the probation. Not privy to the original ruling (I could not locate it), I can't say what the terms were.

Due to the potential penalties, the probation is supposed to make the trainer be more careful to avoid a repeat of the problem.
