The Great White North Tour Begins - Fraser Downs (Friday, December 20, 2013)

Fraser Downs is Canada's answer to Cal Expo with regards to it being the furthest outpost for harness racing up north.  If you hate shippers, you will like Fraser Downs as most of the few shippers there are come from Alberta (though there is one horse on the card which comes in from Ontario).  In theory, there is another track in the province, Sandown Park but they haven't raced since 2009 so it seems highly unlikely racing will return there any time soon.

Fraser Downs is a 5/8 mile oval in Surrey, British Columbia, roughly 45 minutes from the American border so those Washingtonians who love harness racing can make the effort to get their fix.  Like most tracks these days, they have gaming which gives them decent purses considering the class of horses.

As for the driving colony, there are some familiar names at Fraser.  Bill Davis, Travis Bowman, and Clint Warrington are the ones most notable to me.  As for the 30 day rule, forget it, like many tracks, it is a 45 day rule.

Anyway, here are my selections.  You should note there are also eligibles listed in the program so if there is a scratch early enough, the also eligible listed will move in.  If there is an AE in a race, I will indicate their wagering number and name.

Free programs will be available at http://www.fraserdowns.com

Really?  Miami Valley Gaming and Racing intended to race using only self-service terminals (page 7).  Nary, a mutuel clerk.  The ORC has their own opinion about this and refuses to give them race dates.  No doubt negotiations will take place and hire a minimum number of clerks.  Now, I haven't used a teller in years (other than collecting winnings), but NO clerks?  But this is the trend so if you refuse to use self-service machines, it's time to start.  The future is clear.
