According to the IHHA, two days remain before harness racing (and to a degree thoroughbred racing) implodes in Illinois. The main concern lies on how to fund the IRB and several proposals have been floated. Apply a surcharge on winnings from ADWs, OTBs. Possibly tax the tracks and horsemen, or; well you get the opinion. Everyone in the room has their own way they want things to go and the horsemen and tracks have been told by legislators no bill will be considered unless everyone agrees on a common proposal.
Unless a common proposal is agreed upon by everyone in quick time, the racing season is going to be very short in 2014. Will a common agreement be decided upon? Time will tell.
