Racing took a big hit today. This afternoon, Jeff Gural testified in front of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation on the subject of Medication and Performance Enhancing Drugs in Horse Racing. You may find Gural's testimony and supporting exhibits here.
Gural was very upfront and forthright in his testimony. Meaning there will be those within the industry who will not be inviting Mr. Gural to their next cocktail party. However, it is time someone speaks the honest truth; that horse racing is in trouble and out of control when it comes to medication. States are unable to find the drugs and are unwilling to take drug violations seriously (through light penalties and banishment) and the current mish-mosh of rules between states is unworkable..
I would urge you to read his testimony and supporting exhibits. I was going to discuss his answers to Senators' questions but lost the signal. You may view the entire hearing after it has concluded at this website.
