For all practical purposes, you can probably forget my post containing my selections for tonight's debut of Thursday night racing at the Meadowlands with the 'big' storm due to hit the area tonight. Yes, most of the money is bet off track so in the old days they would race anyway, something you could do when the horses were stabled on the grounds. Unfortunately, with no more backstretch, getting the horses back and forth from the track becomes critical and usually, safety wins out. So those having any hope for racing action tonight better look at Northfield Park, which happens to be tonight's Great White North tour stop. Selections for Northfield Park will be posted shortly.
In the meanwhile, the Boston Globe talks about the candidates for the slot parlor license in Massachusetts. For those concerned with the status of harness racing in the Bay State may wish to read the article.
Freehold is scheduled to kick off the 2014 racing season and classified racing today. There will be two classes of 'B' and 'C' levels (i.e., B-1, B-2), but unlike the Meadowlands, there will be only one 'A' class.
Enjoy the day.
