HANA Harness Debuts a Blog

HANA Harness, a division of the Horseplayers Association of North America (HANA) has  established their own blog.  While HANA represents horseplayers of all breeds, the establishment of HANA Harness' blog will allow HANA to focus on HANA's objectives as they relate to harness racing.  So while not a blog which will be updated on a daily basis, it should be included in your blogs to look at list.

Joe Faraldo and Chris Wittstruck co-wrote an excellent press release regarding the strangles outbreak at Saratoga and the industry's response to it.  They also used the article to segue to the problem regarding horse welfare with regards to breakdowns which have become a focal point since the New York Times started their expose on the racing industry.  This is the way we need to get the word out.  The key is how do we get this story out to the general public?

Tioga and Vernon Downs report an increase in nominations to most of their stake races.  In particular, their Miss Versatility stakes race shows an increase in nominations of 80% due to expanding the series to include Mohawk Racetrack and increasing their preliminary leg purses.  I like stakes which include legs at different tracks.  Not only does it allow horsemen more racing opportunities, it allows fans at different tracks to see some of the best horses which they may not otherwise see.

HANA Harness announces The Pen vs. The Chip Challenge co-sponsored by The Hambletonian Society, Meadowlands, Tioga Downs, and Vernon Downs.  You may read the press release here.  Sounds like a great contest with standardbred horse rescue groups benefiting.
