Just When You Thought Things Were Getting Clearer

It;s official, everyone is clueless and this does not bode well for horsemen.  How would you feel not knowing nine days before the new year where you are shipping your horses for the upcoming year?  Well, welcome to New Jersey under the control of Governor Chris Christie.  The NJRC meeting previously scheduled for this Thursday, December 16 has now been moved to Wednesday, December 22.  The agenda remains the same.

NEW JERSEY RACING COMMISSION
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2010
RACING COMMISSION OFFICE
140 EAST FRONT STREET, FOURTH FLOOR
TRENTON, NEW JERSEY
12:00 P.M. EXECUTIVE SESSION/1:00 P.M. PUBLIC MEETING

A. AGENDA ITEMS REQUIRING FORMAL ACTION
1. Consider approval of a motion to move into Executive Session.
2. Consider allocation of 2011 thoroughbred and standardbred racing dates for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority
3. Consideration of the Application filed by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority requesting that the Racing Commission deny renewal licenses for the Toms River and Vineland off-track wagering facilities and invalidate the Master Off-Track Wagering Participation Agreement, in whole or part.
4. Consider the petition of the permitted racetracks, and related entities, for approval to renew the following off-track wagering licenses:
   a) Woodbridge Township 1/1/11 through 12/31/11
   b) Toms River Township 1/1/11 through 12/31/11
   c) Vineland City 1/1/11 through 12/31/11
   d) Bayonne City 1/1/11 through 12/31/11

Still no mention of racing dates from Pennwood regarding Freehold Raceway.  No talk whether or not the governor supports all or most of the pro-racing legislation or just waiting until he sees the Atlantic City-related legislation.  Will there be any subsidies?  Will the governor just veto the minutes of the NJRC meeting.  Does he still want to shut harness racing down in the state?

Clearly everyone is clueless.  In the meanwhile, if I was a horseman, you may want to seriously look at your alternatives, if you haven't already done so.

Aren't politics grand?
