A New Spirit of Cooperation in New Jersey

As a follow up to my earlier post today, it has become clear why NJ horsemen were supporting Christie. Apparently, the horsemen have been assured by the Governor-elect that he will work with both the casino and racing industries to see both prosper. This apparently will be done without slots as during an interview with NBC yesterday, Governor-Elect Christie made it clear there would be no slots anywhere but in Atlantic City.

With VLTs off the table, I don't see a quick fix coming to New Jersey racing. That being said, we look forward to hearing proposals from the Governor-elect. Time will tell if the horsemen's faith in the new Governor is justified. Hopefully it is.

I am enjoying your coverage of the Governor's race and what it means for racing in NJ but hoping for better with Mr. Christie is probably a pipedream. He like Corzine is indebted to the casino interests, even though the casino's cannot "legally" contribute directly to the campaigns in NJ.

You may very well be right but we need to give Christie a chance to prove us wrong. At least the tone of the conversation is a little better; we know Corzine turned out not be an honest broker.

John, with regards to your link, that is the way politics is played everywhere. I assume TrotPac made their contributions as well, though probably nowhere to the amount gaming companies gave.
