Curious how harness racing can be with different distances, overflow field sizes and other variations? Then check out Xtreme Horsepower which will be occurring at Georgian Downs on August 29 starting at 6pm. The condition sheet is available here. As the event gets closer, programs will be available from the Georgian Downs website for free (they always have free programs).
On this card, you will see two tiers of horses; races with a standing start; opposite direction; sprints and marathon distances. Some of these ideas you may not like, some you may. The bottom line is here is a chance to experience it and form your own opinion. One thing is certain; it will be different and the payoffs have the potential to be big. You can observe or you can wager, the choice is yours. Who knows, perhaps one day some of these events may become part of a normal race program. Maybe a track in the United States may attempt a similar program.
I realize not all ADWs or racetracks will simulcast Georgian Downs. Last year, the Meadowlands and NJAW offered the program. Check with your local racetrack or ADW to see if they will be offering it.
