He like everyone else saw the good times going on forever for the longest time. Eventually, I suspect he saw what was coming; note he is almost all the way out of racing in the United States; basically involved with harness racing in Italy.

BTW, remember when Clint Galbraith and Elsie Berger wanted to race Niatross as a four year old; Lou Guida was the one who forced him to retire after three (granted, Elsie and Clint gave Lou the right to manage him once his three year old campaign was over. After that, the path to the breeding shed after three became almost mandatory for big syndication deals.

Why is he in the HOF? To be fair, he helped cement the demand for using catch drivers.

As for his commoditizing of race horses making them primarily investment vehicles? Remember who does most of the voting. People connected to breeding interests and those who would own those horses getting the large syndication deals; the people who got very rich thanks to Mr. Guida's precedent. If you were profiting, from his actions, wouldn't you be voting for him? Now we are left to deal with the consequences.

Don't take this as a personal attack on Mr. Guida. Rest assured when the heady days of the Meadowlands arrived, someone else probably would have done the same thing. That Blog Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15487597769210721585noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4684463172854959042.post-2464107983275222012010-02-22T15:01:32.630-05:002010-02-22T15:01:32.630-05:00WOW! Couldn't have said it better myself. I ...WOW! Couldn't have said it better myself. I will never understand why Lou Guida is in the HOF. His business model ruined harness racing IMHO.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
